Born in Newark, NJ, Velazquez graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. He attended Rutgers University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sociology in 1989, and the University of Notre Dame, where he attained his law degree (J.D.) in 1992. Velazquez has been a Hudson County Freeholder, Councilman at Large for the City of Jersey City and has served as a Municipal Court Judge in New Jersey. He was appointed a Judge to the Superior Court of New Jersey in 2016, and currently sits in the Hudson County Superior Court. He is the father of Justin Velazquez and lives in Jersey City, New Jersey. View All Posts
